And Just Like That, The Sun Came Out On June 1st, 2017

There was reason to celebrate again. Kyle Linseman, (pictured above) was more than happy to greet the sun. After a month of cold and dreary days, June brought the first rays of sun we have seen in quite sometime. *There was those two day that reached 96 degrees, but those were a fluke. After cranking the AC on both of those days, our heat has been on ever since.

It's still not exactly summer out there. Far from it, but at least we have sun.

There were a few days in late May that looked like the sun was gonna pop through, but them dam clouds would show up, and darken the skies again.

But hey, there was surf. So it's really hard to complain. Though our gardens could really use some sun. Not to mention our Memorial Day services was under a constant drizzle of a cold rain. We have had warmer Veterans Days.

Speaking of Veterans, here are three new Hampshire Surfer/Veterans.

Jay Hammer US ARMY, myself USMC, and Gary Smith USAF. The photo was taken on the beach at 0800. We do four services each Memorial Day. 8AM on the beach. 9AM in Hampton Falls. 10AM in North Hampton, and 11AM in Hampton proper where we have the "big" parade.

Our last WWII veteran of Post 35. Warren A. White USMC. He made every service. Never complained once. There's a gallery down in the photo section that captures the day at all four locations.

The girls were out in force too. Julie Jakoboski was out on all four days that I shot. Unfortunately I only shot stills. It just didn't seem like it was video worthy.
Though I shot my first ever Drone Footage, and that came out pretty good considering it was at a beach break. I am going to have to buckle down and get some video of the ladies soon.

Martha Lardent got some great stills of Becca Speak. In fact, she may have shot some video. I'll have to get in touch with her to find out. One of the features of this All Women Surf Video is, I want to also include some of the women surf photographers. And there's a handful that are pretty dam good.
Martha Lardent, *Maureen McNamara, *Hannah Vokey, *Erica Nardone,
Cory Fatello, Kim Grondin, and a host of others.

* These women are also very good surfers.

Looking forward to this soon to be historical film.

This week's Ed's corner pic is one of Max Fatello from 2013. Looks like a fun Spring Day. No doubt I was off covering another spot while Ed placed himself in front of this reef. We worked well together. Between the two of us we pretty much captured every single swell.
To see more of Ed's pics just scroll through the archives. He has shot so many pics for the blog. Each week I will feature one of Ed's great pics from this blog. Photo by Ed O'Connell

Now for Some More Of My Weekly Global Observances
It's no secret that I am not a big fan of 45. However, I am less of a fan of ISIS. So for this woman Kathy Griffin to pull this stunt? I'm sorry. But this is beyond sickening. I may not agree with the president, but I certainly respect the office. I can now say with 100% conviction, that I am NO LONGER a fan of this woman.

I don't know what you were thinking here Kathy. I'm guessing you
never really thought this one through. Too bad. You lost your job at CNN, and I'm guessing you lost more fans than just me.

Bye bye Kathy. Or should we say "Happy New Year!"

And speaking of NOT FUNNY. I was never a real Bill Maher fan. I always thought he was too full of himself. A pompous ass if you will. And not for nothing, but if I had a face like his? I wouldn't come off as pompous. I'd be trying hide that mug. Any way, Bill messed up by dropping the "N-Word". Now everybody knows that white assholes like Bill, can't be calling themselves a "N****" on TV. But that's exactly what he did. The backlash has been deafening. Bye bye Bill.

KSM Photoshop of the Week
OK, so Kathy Griffin scrambles to try and make her massive wrong a right, by switching Trump's head for KSM. But it was too late. The damage was done. And honestly? Who would be offended by this? I mean besides Al Qeada and ISIS? Nobody.

Any way, we all know KSM by now. So it was no surprise to see him show up in a promo piece for Anderson Cooper and his annual NEW YEAR'S EVE broadcast. I don't know, what do you guys think?

So my friends, please take advantage of this weekly photo shop of the mastermind who planned 9-11 and resulted in the deaths of 3,000 innocent civilians by KSM (Khalid Sheik Mohammed).

*Note to self -must pick up a case of Red haired wigs at Home Depot this week.

*Our Thoughts and Prayers go out to London today.
Prayers and positive thoughts to Erica Nardone's recovery.

Prayers and positive thoughts to surfer Jason Kooken who suffered
a spinal cord injury in New Jersey last month.
REST IN PEACE Col. Paul Lessard USMC Korea and Vietnam Veteran. One of the nicest marines I have ever known. This town will be a lot less colorful without him. Semper Fi Colonel.

I can't believe that these two Marines are gone. Seems like yesterday.
George Masten Korea-Vietnam, Ralph Fatello Vietnam, and
Col Paul Lessard Korea and Vietnam. RIP and Semper Fi.

My CATCH A WAVE FOR MOLLY. (Click On the Banner below

A Wave a day for 365 consecutive days.
Yesterday- Bruzzie Bowden 1973 in California.
(Below) Bruz is one of my oldest friends. Though it's been years since I last saw him. Back in the mid sixties, he along with Jeff Crawford, Peter Hilton, Mike Normand, Jay Wilbur, and myself had our own little surf club. We called it Competition East (not my name). Which is funny, because I don't believe any of us ever entered a contest. We had some great times back then. We all slowly dissolved the group due to many things. College, the war in Vietnam, and love. We have old photos here and there. And there's a video on my Vimeo page of those days. Peter and Mike have long since passed away. The only two who have kept in touch are just Jeff and I. Which is not at all surprising, because we were really into surfing. And still are.

MOTHER'S DAY SWELL May 14-15-16-2017 from Ralph's Pic Of The Week on Vimeo. This is the web edit for the 3 Day Mother's Day Swell. It never really got bigger than head high. And it rained the first two days. Still, it was surf, and beggars can't be choosers now can we. I did the edit today after hearing about the death Chris Cornell, lead singer for Soundgarden. He had a great voice. It's ironic because I was looking for the right song to go with this edit. And I believe I found it with Black Hole Sun. The surfers that I can remember are: Kai Nichols, Tom Hay, Andy Elliott, Mikey Moran, Skip Brunette, Erik Zak, Kody Grondin, Chris Stelman, Max Fatello, Mikey Evans, and a handful I couldn't ID. This is for all the mothers. past, present, and future. And it's in memory of Chris Cornell.

The Forgotten Go Pro Footage 2014-2016 Part 1
from Ralph's Pic Of The Week on Vimeo.

This is a series of web edits that was all shot on my old GoPro. How old? Well it's the HERO II. So that's 3 GoPros ago. Did I just write that? I guess I did. Any way, this first edit was shot on the last day of Summer in 2014. The surfers are (that I can remember) : Perry Reynolds, Kai Nichols, Lenny Nichols, Mike Rosa, Zach Bru, Bryan Johnson, Kyle Linesman, Kenny Linseman, and a bunch of others. *You might want to take some Dramamine before watching this. It's all water shots, so no tripods were used. Music is by Trentemoller and Grenier.

The Forgotten GoPro Footage Part II 2014-2016 from Ralph's Pic Of The Week on Vimeo.

More of the GoPro footage I had lying around. It's pretty much small wall footage. Though, it is noteworthy a the clips of Kevin Grondin were all shot on his birthday last Jun 23d, 2016. The rest is mostly empty waves with Mackey getting a few. The real cool thing about this web edit is. 50 years ago today, May 12th, 1967, The Jimi Hendrix Experience released their debut LP. This song was on that record. And I remember it all like it was yesterday. Funny thing is, the song is as current today as it was 50 years ago. Do check it out.
